Social media enables every person to share content with billions of potential viewers and the power and the potential of it is huge. The ability to spread information has become so much easier since social media's development. This is one of the major benefits of social media. In recent years, people have built a career and making a lot of money through social media only. The enormous amounts of content that is available online can sometimes be overwhelming. Since everything is so easy to spread, there is a lot of information online and in order to sell or for your content to be viewed the most you need to make your content remarkable. With that being said, social media also has another side, which is less pleasant. For example, we can learn from Randi Zuckerberg's case, when someone shared a picture she shared on Facebook to another social media platform. It is hard to stay private these days and Randi's claim, in this case, was that she wanted to share this picture to her friends on Facebook only. The problem is, that the moment that content is shared on social media it is out there and it is almost impossible to make it unseen. Therefore people should take this seriously and think before they are sharing content on social media because the consequences are irreversible. Another clear advantage to social media is the ability to recruit job candidates easily. These days, it is easier to collect information on potential candidates through social media and to reach out to them instantly. It has changed the recruiting world completly for the better. At the same time, their right to privacy is affected. Usually, people share private content about their lives through social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and they would like to separate their private lives and their professional lives. Linkedin and other platforms have some privacy controls that are meant to keep people's privacy but still, this is something that is almost impossible to do these days.

Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting by Frank Langfitt, NPR, March 16, 2008. available from http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6522523&sc=emaf
I agree that social media is public rather than private, regardless if you set it to private or for a targeted audience. If it's shared, then it's there forever. On the other hand, LinkedIn is a great way for job hunters and recruiters to network. Social networking has its good and its bad sides and I believe it's up to users to take measures to protect themselves and also the responsibility of tech companies to prioritize the protection of user's data.
